This fall a couple of good friends of mine, Brendan and Yvonne are getting married, and they asked me if I would photograph their wedding. Of course I was honored and maybe a bit scared, since after all, I’m not a professional photographer. So I’ve been talking with my mentor about this, and also doing some research online to see certain styles of wedding photography.
I ran across this photographer named Charles Janis, who just happens to be in Vancouver, and runs a company called Unforgettable Moments. Really cool stuff! He shoots it more “photo-journalism” style to get a more candid “if you were actually there” kind of feel that I think works great for weddings.
So one day when I was getting ready for our hockey game, I told my friend about this great site I saw, and his style, and I thought that it would be cool to shoot his wedding that way. I couldn’t remember the URL off-hand, but told him that I’d find it again, and send it to him. At this point he mentioned that he had a co-worker who was a professional wedding photographer on the side, but there’s no way he could afford to use his services, and plus he was happy to have me do it.
Of course I forgot, but today I got an email from Brendan letting me know that he shared my flickr site with his co-worker because he was concerned that by using a “friend” to shoot a wedding, he would probably not get good results. But after viewing my flickr site, he told Brendan that he was very impressed by my work, and was confident in my ability. He even went so far as sharing some example photos of his work with Brendan so that he could pass them on to me. He also sent Brendan a link to his site.
Well imagine my surprise as I saw the URL come up as Unforgettable Moments! His co-worker’s name is Charles Janis! OMG what a small freaking world!
I couldn’t believe that I stumbled across some wedding site that could have been anywhere in the world, but had no idea that it was so closely related to my friend who was getting married.
Fate? Coincidence? Or is the world just that small? You be the judge. ![]()
